Jews in Austria today - through a series of talks at the University of Vienna

Now I've been there twice already and then I asked myself if I report it because it appears to me newsworthy and I never would have seen that someone else reported it. It is to a discussion series titled "Jews in Austria today," offered this semester (Summer 2009) by Peter Mann at the National Institute for Jewish Studies at the University of Vienna.

The subtitle in the course catalog reveals, " talks with Beckerman, a brewer, Bronner, Eisenberg, Holender, Lansky, Lendvai, Lessing, Markus, Muzicant, Rabinovici, Schenk, Singer, Spera, Zadek." I have of course jumped at the chance to participate, after all, I am interested in Judaism, especially in Austria, but also for Media / Journalism (for which such high-profile guests with Bronner and Lendvai exist).

Attendance is way possible without registration (at the end of the semester students must pass an examination, which, depending on the field can be added). I guess this event (every Tuesday morning at the Institute of Jewish Studies) has got around, or will spread even further, just as the visit is available to anyone and there really high-profile guests will be present. In any event, the hall was the second time already somewhat crowded - I think it will be even closer in the future.

discussion leader and initiator of the whole is DDDr. Peter Landesmann (I hope I have not forgotten Dr.?). Country man doctorate, like he has betrayed the second appointment, both in Judaism, Protestant and Catholic theology. For the Protestants and Catholics, he was probably the first Jew who has a doctorate in "their" studied - at least it needed to complete before he could, first of some rule changes and approvals by the religious leaders in Austria.

The "lecture" is a public ceremony on Tuesdays 11:15 to 12:45 in Lecture Hall 1 of the Institute of Jewish Studies at the campus of the University of Vienna.

Registration is not required, students who want to take credit for the visit of their studies, however, have an oral end of the semester Testing complete. The "room" has about 40 seats, including floor and standing he carries around 60 people; As the visit possible for everyone, and the guests has been very prominent, the seating capacity was exhausted on the first date, the second had only a few ground and standing "free" was, I "fear" an increase in the lack of space in advance of the semester.

This blog is from now on every appointment, every conversation, documenting - at least the important content points.
I will also try to recognize continuities, speaking points, which are addressed with each guest, and similarities / differences . Show
